make a copy of flash

how can make a copy of my flah file that I can use later?
can I read the flash by JTAG and save a copy of it?

Do you have a JTAG ? The receiver must have 20 pin JTAG connector ,or holes for it. Connect and use JKEYS from Dave to read Flash.

I did as Slugworth and other said and made a copy of lazer 2005 flash.

If you use sbflash102, download a couple of times and compare the files
to make sure they are all the same. I had to clear my transponder/channel list or the downloaded file would be corrupt.
If you upload a corrupt file from sbflash, you won't know it until you
reboot. The file will upload without error. Then you will need a jtag to recover. A word to the wise.

Jtag is the most reliable way to backup your firmware.
I have been using what people call "new jkeys" for about 4 years now.
It was designed for north american echostar receivers.
If you make a simple jtag adapter, which was the original design, keep
the cable as short as possible. Jtag will repair a completely blank tsop,
if you have a file to program into it. Make a good backup before tragedy
strikes.

so,I must by JTAG first make a copy of flash.This copy can be used for future use such as recover a died stb.

I would say not copy ,but image file, or flash dump. You have to read the flash using this JKEYS option -start adress 7FE00000 ,lenght 200000. The Flash CAN NOT be damaged by the JTAG ,only the data inside can -so DONT USE the "erase" and "program" comands ,before you have read the flash dump ,and have it saved on your HDD.
